Couples Therapy
“Communication works for those who work at it”
~ John Powell
Couples therapy is traditionally viewed as a process between romantic partners or pre-marital counselling. However, it can also apply to other types of relationships, such as: siblings, parent and child relationships or even friendships.
Ideally with couples I like to meet with each person on their own for an individual session first and then bring you together. This allows for me to gain each individual’s context, subjective experiences of the relationship, as well as personal goals for the couples therapy. This equally enables a safe space that if there is something that perhaps one is too afraid or too shy to say in front of the other that I may be informed and manage it during the therapeutic process.
I have found that having the initial individual session each before coming together as a couple enables the process to be more productive and allows for quicker positive change.
A common question I am asked is my couples therapy rate. When it comes to couples therapy I charge by my time, not by the number of people present. Thus, it would be billed as one singular session for a couples session with two people present.
Please see my “fee and session information” tab for these investment rates.
