Rates and Session Information
“When someone really hears you without passing judgement on you, without trying to take responsibility for you, without trying to mould you, it feels good… When I have been listened to and when I have been heard, I am able to re-perceive my world in a new way and to go on. It is astonishing how elements which seem insoluble become soluble when someone listens. How confusions which seem irremediable turn into relatively clear flowing streams when one is heard”.
~ Carl Rogers
Session Information
Individual sessions and couple’s therapy sessions are of 50 minutes duration.
Double sessions are available upon request and are 100 minutes.
Once weekly sessions are recommended, but more frequent sessions, or twice monthly sessions are available upon request.
Sessions are tailored to each individual.
Treatment duration varies depending upon: the individual; their therapeutic needs and goals; and the severity and intricacy of the presenting problem. I prefer to work at a pace that is comfortable for my clients.
Psychotherapy sessions generally range from 5 to 15 sessions per client.

Fee Information (self-investment cost)
Please note that fees will increase annually.
Payments options include: EFT, card tapping machine, and QR payment code.
Medical aid claims made on the client’s behalf
The payable 2023 rate is R1250.00 per session unless otherwise specified.
Ashton will submit directly to your medical aid on your behalf. You will be responsible to pay the co-payment fee.
Depending on which medical aid you are with and what their pre-set fees are- you will pay approximately R120-R150 for the co-payment portion (this applies to PMB sessions as well).
Co-payment will be required at the end of the session.
Psychotherapy is usually paid from your medical aid savings facility if your plan has one.
Should you be seeking therapy due to a mood disorder, such as depression, an eating disorder or a recent trauma (medical aids require evidence for the trauma), we could then explore a prescribed minimum benefit (PMB) for you on your medical aid plan. This effectively swaps inpatient psychiatric care for outpatient therapy sessions without tapping into your medical aid savings, it is paid in full by the PMB. Most of the main stream medical aids offer a PMB option on the medical aid plans. However, you must meet the diagnostic requirements for a PMB condition.
Please note it is the client’s responsibility to ensure that their medical aid scheme provides for outpatient psychology sessions. Should funds run out the client is ultimately responsible for the outstanding account. Furthermore, you understand and consent that there is a co-payment amount for your session and you will pay and claim back from your medical aid.
Cash payment for non-medical aid members
The payable 2023 rate is R1200.00 per session.
This is a cash practice. Payment will be required at the end of the session.
You will be emailed a paid invoice.
Virtual reality therapy cost
Due to the equipment and report required for a virtual reality therapy session- a VRT session would require a cash-in-hand co-payment of R100 above the regular medical aid or cash rate.
24-hour cancellation policy
Please note that I have a 24-hour cancellation policy. A session cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice will be charged in full.
